Lebanese thank Mehlis with prayers and tears
Beirut, Lebanon- The reaction to the UN report in Lebanon was swift. Except for Syria's allies all Lebanese praised UN chief investigator Judge Detlev Mehlis for his efforts and for revealing the truth behind this terrorist act.
Beirut saw the largest gathering in support of Mehlis report. Ministers Marwan Hamade and Ghazi Aridi were amongst the Lebanese supporters of slain former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. They waved the Lebanese flags while shouting slogans during a gathering for prayers and welcoming of the U.N. report on Hariri's assassination in the Martyrs' Square on Friday, Oct. 21, 2005. They gathered at former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's graveside to pray, chant support for his son Saad ( who couldn’t be there for security reasons) and to denounce Syria and its allied Lebanese president Friday after the U.N. report found Damascus involved in the assassination. Many wept and lit candles. To show their appreciation and love for Mehlis many wore T shirts that said ' I love Mehlis'. Many also carried banners that said 'Thank you Mehlis'. It was like a thanksgiving day. Here are some pictures of the gathering , courtesy of Hussein Malla of AP
