TURKEY: GOVERNOR SACKED AS RISOTTO SCANDAL SPLITS NATION

(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, AUGUST 22 - The governor, or vali, of the Turkish province of Mugla has been dismissed and summoned in Ankara for having served Turkish Interior Minister Osman Gunes risotto prepared with sinful (haram) wine. "Because of you I committed a sin. You made me swallow alcohol," the minister yelled at the Mugla governor Temel Kocaklar, immediately after he realised that the risotto he had just eaten with great pleasure contained a glass of the diabolical alcoholic drink, absolutely forbidden by Islam.

The minister so liked the risotto, which was served at dinner after a working meeting, that he wanted to hear the recipe directly from the chef who had prepared it. But the governor found himself in hot water when the minister, upon realising there was wine in that risotto, turned red with anger and began shouting in public. Upon returning to Ankara, the minister dismissed at once the vali and summoned him to the Interior Ministry in Ankara: a good punishment, revealed to the media by the valìs wife, Sabahat Kocaklar, who disclosed details of the incident in an interview with 'Vatan' newspaper.

Prominent theologians also expressed their opinion on the "risotto" debate by disproving the hot-tempered and over-devout minister. "Alcohol consumed in pasta is not a sin because the alcohol evaporates while it is being cooked," said famous theologian Yasar Nuri Ozturk, while his colleagues Suleyman Ates, equally renowned, affirmed: "If a person consumes unknowingly a meal cooked in alcohol it is not a sin. It is enough to ask forgiveness from God." 'Hurriyet' newspaper accompanied the news with a poll which shows that after the "risotto scandal" created by Minister Gunes, the interest towards risotto has increased much both in restaurants and in supermarkets. The poll does not show, however, whether the interest for white wine has increased. (ANSAmed).

Well now we all know how pious the minister is...what a very self-righteous holy man...and he even got the poor govenor fired. Way to go St Gunes. What an appropriate name -> gune = species unknown. lol

Take off your hat and bow very low in reverence when you next meet, see or even hear of his piousness, the gune.

Well, I know you are a Christian and try to follow the shepperd's teachings. Wouldn't you be upset if someone made you sin according to your beliefs? After you eliminate the drama and the comments, it look just like that to me.

Move on please ...

I guess you can't help but expose yourself as an idiot - everyone and their mother knows that ETOH evaporates during cooking. Clue: read the last paragraph where they spelt it out for you and if that doesn't remove your pious self-righteous indignatioin then join the ranks of 'the gunes - mini-gune?

Thank you for pointing out the obvious but as you can see the minister didn't know it....

I don't see the difference of Bush Jr giving the name of the CIA agent to press then blaming an officer doing so and firing him. Or telling there were WMD'sin Iraq and cousing hundreds of thousands civilians die..... The goverments may act stupidly but this won't condemn the whole nation.

If you disagree then how can you explain Jr being president for the 2nd time icon_smile.gif

I just let go the racist generalising in your comment and try to make it a little more clear for your young brain to get it icon_smile.gif

Not all selected politicians are the most birriliant people of their nations was my point, do you disagree?

BTW, have I mentioned that I met Mr. Al Gore in person last month ? He is a very nice person and doing his best to warn the world for the greatest danger ever.

It is a pity Bush Jr. won the race icon_sad.gif
