Excellent site, Yerevan. Definitely a keeper.
I had been thinking, on my next trip back to Kurdistan, I wanted to go to Wan and Mt. Ararat. Being that close to Armenia, it might be worthwhile to cross over and visit.
I met a Bosnian in Istanbul, this last spring, and his wife is Armenian. She and their daughters live in Yerevan, while this husband has found work in Istanbul. He was telling me of his "adventures" in traveling back to Yerevan to visit his family.
He has to go through Georgia, and the entire trip is a nightmare!
I think I will forego the way through Georgia, and try a more official way. . . of course, there is always a less official way, if Turkish authorities don't want to cooperate.

QUOTE(Yerevan) Ani used to be the capital of Armenia. Ani was also called the city of thousand and one churches. It is a beutifull place.
However you decide to go, I really hope you get the chance to visit Armenia. I'm sure you won't be disapointed and you won't feel like an outsider. If you decide to travel on the ground, I wish you good luck because the borders are closed from the Turkish side.
Yes, I am aware of the border situation, which is why I was considering non-conventional forms of border crossing, however, I don't know what the situation is with checking passports in Armenia. I know that if I crossed into liberated Kurdistan in a non-conventional manner, I would have no problem. Kurdish security and pêşmerge only ask for passport if your appearance raises a "warning flag" to them. Mine does not, so I am never asked for my passport.
I have known Armenians in the US and have always found them to be very likeable people, so I would not be worried about Armenians in Armenia or about being disappointed.
I have read that Ani used to be the capital of Armenia, which is why I think it must be beautiful and sad. Kars, also from what I understand, used to be an important Armenian city.
I had hoped that the border situation would ease, but with Turkish nationalism on the rise, and the situation in Turkish-occupied Kurdistan getting worse. . . I am thinking that the border will remain closed for some time. So stupid.
If I'm not mistaken, Armenia has been suffering from some rough economic conditions lately, as has Kurdistan. It would be good if one day we could collaborate on projects that could help to solve this problem for both peoples.
