IPB Image

Giz Galasi is our National Symbol.. The Legends say there was a poor Azeri guy who wanted to marry the Princes of Azerbaycan.. But the Shah of Azerbaycan couldnt allow her daugher to marry some poor guy.. The Princes begged and begged her father for permission to marry.. But the Shah didnt change his mind.. And one day the Shah grew tired of the begging of her daughter.. and decided to lock her up in this Tower to calm her down and make her forget about this poor guy.. The Princes stayed locked in the Tower.. which was then surrounded by water on all sides.. Then after days the Shah said.. release my daughter.. she has learned her lesson... The Princess was released.. and the first thing she did was ran up the stairs of the Tower.. untill she got the highest floor... Then she threw herself from the tower and drowed in the Caspian Sea...

The Moral of this story is.. you cant influence, deny or lock up love..

Many say Baku has changed alot, and not in a good way, they build those new ugly buildings, and the people aren't happy with our government, there is corruption, I hate to admit it, but there is, there are people living on the streets icon_sad.gif many are still in favor of the former Soviet regime,

Its called progress.. according to the CIA Factbook Azerbaijan is the #1 invested country in the world. We have to build new buildings and offices for progress of Azerbaycan! At the moment yes it looks weird to have such high buildings in Baku, there is a lot of construction going on right now. There are hunderds of new buildings being build in Baku, once they are all finished it will look a lot more better.

Also Azertos there is not one capital city in the world were some people do not live in streets, Baku is no exception.

I have heard that Baku is by far the cleanest city of Caucasus icon_cool.gif

Amazing pictures, especially those of Johannes Paulus (John Paul) the second, he was a great man.

I hope our country will continue its tolerance towards other religions.
all these religious fights are ridiculous, I think we should respect not only believers of other religions, but also non-believers, like atheists. I have many atheist friends and No they aren't evil!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Why cant this work in other countries with diffrent religions?

Very nice to see that those diffrent people respect eachother and suppourt or learn more about the religion of the other one.

We also have one of the most ancient Christian community, the Udi-Albanians, they are Azeris. There are about 9000 of Udi-Albanians in the world and 8000 life in Azerbaijan. Most of them life in the city Sheki, they also have one of the oldest Christian churches there, build in the first century. I have been in Sheki a few times and they are the nicest people.

Conflict/Cultural/Country Interest: armenia, turkey, azerbaijan, mostly, ...christian lebanon...

mordoth, you seem to use the word 'genocide' alot...for just about anything but the real event...1915...armenian genocide...1.5 million dead...

and the real cultural genocide in bosnia is the turks murduring and force coverting the entire population to islam, thus creating the conflict that still rages today in the balklands...so yes, bosnia is turkey, but only because turkey murdered the bosniaks into being turks...

hmm, these are nice pictures though, i like the ones with view on th caspian sea...

but the pictures of azeri muslims and cristians is a lie, and you know it, there is no such harmony...

remember one thing: southern azerbaijan is nachitchevan, was armenian, and will one day be armenian again.
kharabakh is artsakh, was armenian, is armenian and willl always be armenian! got it...

ok mordoth....once and for all...

here is an encyclopedia article about bosniaks...

QUOTE
The Bosniaks (Bosnian: Bošnjaci, IPA: [bɔ'ʃɲaːt͡si]) are a South Slavic people, living mainly in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Sandžak region of Serbia and Montenegro, with a smaller autochthonous population also present in Kosovo (province of Serbia) and Macedonia. Bosniaks are typically characterized by their tie to the Bosnian historical region, traditional adherence to Islam, and common culture and language.

Bosniaks belong per definition to the Slavic ethnic group, but their genetic make-up is a mixture of Slav settlers and descendants of pre-Slavic indigenous Illyrian tribes. In addition, Celtic tribes who spanned the Balkans for distinct periods often encountering Illyrians, may have influenced today's Bosniak population. One concrete suggestion to this blending between Celts and native Illyrians is apparent in the many celtic remainings found throughout Bosnia.

so..we have: slavic, illyrian, which is indo-european, and then we have celts..
no turks, no tatars, no god knows what...

i mean, the part of azerbaijan that is south of armenia my friend..i think you would understand..

but those pictures are propaganda. azeris have no tolerance...what happened to the lezgis?
and the albanians are not azeris, they are the original inhabitants of azeribajian, they are related to armenians and georgians.

jealous of what exactly?, the persian forteress around old baku? or the russian neo-classical buildings? or is it the ugly steel and glass heydar aliyev monuments?

QUOTE
Our architects are geniuses

yes, again, that building is a typical russian baroque structure, which is NOT unique to azerbaijan, as there are some in armenia, georgia, even vladivostok, no need praising your architects for that.
